Salsa de Chile de Arbol

2 oz dried chile de Arbol
1 ½ cups water
1-2 tablespoons corn oil
Salt to taste


Heat oven to 350ยบ. Place dried chile de Arbol in a small oven proof pan. When oven is pre-heated, place pan of chiles in oven, and toast for 60 seconds (watch closely, as they only take a moment to toast. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Remove stems, and add to the container of a blender. Add water, and puree chiles well (more water may be necessary to puree). Pour puree through a mesh strainer to remove seeds.

In a small skillet, heat corn oil. Add chile puree, and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Salt to taste.

Makes about 1 cup

Note: For a hotter sauce, leave in the seeds.
